My idea is to put a golf ball like coating on airplanes to make them more aerodynamic

THE SOLUTION

Myth Busters tested the idea that if a car has a golf ball shaped outer layer, it will increase fuel economy. It was a success. Why not take the same idea and apply it to airplanes? Putting a simple plastic covering on the airplanes with a dimple pattern could increase their fuel efficiency.

You would likely think that it would increase fuel efficiency, but the science behind the golf balls dimples and why they work the way they do is because of the spin on a golf ball. I'd hate to be in a spinning airplane.... check out http://wings.avkids.com/Book/Sports/instructor/golf-01.html for the basic science behind why golf balls have dimples. While, I don't think dimples are the right solution, I do think there is a solution out there to improve the aerodynamics and fuel efficiency of aircraft.
