Flashing brake lights that flash faster if you hit the brakes harder.

THE SOLUTION

You're driving along the freeway in heavy traffic and you see the brake lights of the driver in front light up. But did he just tap the brakes lightly, or is he slamming on? To help you figure out whether you need to slam on too to avoid running into the back of him, wouldn't it be helpful if his lights flashed slowly if he just tapped the brakes, and increasingly fast the harder he hits them? The more vehicles that had this low-cost, easy feature, the safer our roads would be.

I've thought the same thing. My thought line was on intensity, but I agree that the blinking/flashing strobe-type lighting would certainly get my attention quicker. Alas, there are some great ideas for vehicles, but I think without a government mandate, they just won't happen. Yes, we could sell them individually, but without widespread adoption, who would know what a blinking tail light means? They did bring out the "cyclops" tail light back in 84 (the one in the rear window) as studies showed that the third light helped alert drivers to a braking car. Perhaps other studies could be conducted, or petitions signed and submitted to our state representatives? Great idea, and good luck!!

almost all new cars will soon have automatic breaking/accident prevention systems, but it would still be beneficial to people driving the older cars following them. This sounds extremely distracting to other drivers in nearby lanes, hope no one has epilepsy!
