A cell phone app that turns phone into E-Z pass at tolls

THE SOLUTION

Instead of having a separate account set up for paying for tolls that you cross regularly what if you could have your cell phone pay for it? The tolls would just come out of your monthly phone bill and you would not have to worry about keeping any E-Z pass paid for and constantly in your car.Extra Questions

This is an excellent idea. Since most (all?) smartphones have gps locators built-in, it'd be possible for the company to recognize you & your location on their road at any time (so long as you have the phone with you). If they put in special lanes for those with phone & app, users could speed right through the gates, saving time, energy, and reducing the need for toll operators. beauty

You might run into timing issues - the local wifi would register you as passing the brige both ways - hence getting charged twice. It would be a big envasion of cell privacy if it could track your gps and only give you a bill if it could read your location data (GPS) remotely. This is more accurate that what the phone company currently should know (which cell towers you are near).

I believe you can set EZ passes (I know for sure IPass) to automatically put money in the account from a credit card.

Not too difficult to implement just have an NFC (near field communication) sticker connected to your cellphone perhaps connected via Tootmobile or other mobile payment system - via ISIS in the US at present currently being developed via the Carriers. At the Toll have a NFC Active receiver to connect directly with your handset or smartcard ie credit card - which is already implemented into your existing credit card - But US not activated via NFC, this technology already in place in Europe and Asia. Payment done and recorded and so no hassle. Sadly iPhone 4 does not have this feature as yet and I do not think will be implmented on iphone 5.
